As per amendments introduced by the government in 2017, mutual fund investors have to link their mutual funds with Aadhaar. Asset Management Companies (AMCs) will collect the Aadhaar numbers, verify with UIDAI and link them with respective mutual funds. Investors can link Aadhaar with mutual funds in any of the four ways — online, offline, e-mail, or SMS.
Individuals can easily link Aadhaar card with mutual funds online via the website of RTAs such as CAMS and Karvy. Here is a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Individuals have to visit the Aadhaar linking platform of CAMS.
Step 2: Then, they need to click on ‘Investor Services’ and choose ‘Link Your Aadhaar’
Step 3: Now, one has to select the necessary option based on the type of investor they are —
individual, HUF, or non-individual (apart from HUF).
Step 4: Individuals have to provide their PAN and then click on ‘Submit’,
Step 5: Then, they need to enter details such as Aadhaar number, date of birth, mobile number,
gender, and then click on ‘Generate OTP’,
Step 6: Now, investors have to enter the OTP and click on ‘Submit’.
Once the request is submitted, the Aadhaar will be linked with all mutual funds after necessary
verification.
Step 1: Investors have to visit the official portal of Karvy.
Step 2: Now, depending on the requirements, they need to click on any one of the two available options — ‘Non-Individuals – Click to Link Aadhaar Card’ or ‘Individuals – Click to Link Aadhaar Card’.
Step 3: Individuals have to enter their PAN. Then they will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number.
Step 4: Once they provide this OTP, they have to choose the mutual funds that they wish to link their Aadhaar with. After that, investors have to provide their Aadhaar number.
Step 5: They will receive another OTP. The Aadhaar link with mutual funds will be successful after they provide this OTP.
There are different options available to link Aadhaar with mutual funds offline. These are as follows:
Individuals linking through CAMS have to download the form for the Aadhaar update request from the official portal. Then, they need to fill it up correctly, sign it, and deposit it to the nearest CAMS office. One needs to provide a self-attested copy of their Aadhaar card.
In case one has mutual fund portfolios with Karvy, he/she can download the Aadhaar linking form from the official portal of Karvy. Individuals can also obtain this form from the office and fill it up accordingly. They need to submit this form along with a self-attested copy of their Aadhaar card.
Investors also have the option to link their Aadhaar with mutual funds offline by visiting the respective offices of Asset Management Companies. They have to visit the office, collect the Aadhaar linking form, fill in the necessary details, and submit it with a self-attested copy of the Aadhaar card. Aadhaar linking will be complete after verifications.
Individuals can also easily link their Aadhaar with mutual funds through SMS and e-mail.
To link mutual funds with the Aadhaar number via SMS, one has to type ADRLNK (space) PAN (space) Aadhaar number (space) Y and then send the message to +91 9212993399. The ‘Y’ represents the investor’s consent to allow Karvy to authenticate and carry out the process of linking Aadhaar with different mutual funds of an individual.
One can also link mutual funds with their Aadhaar number by sending an e-mail to respective AMCs. They have to mention their Aadhaar number and PAN details while making an application via mail. The AMC will carry out necessary verifications and then link the Aadhaar.
Before investors link Aadhaar with mutual funds, they should make sure that the same mobile number is registered with both Aadhaar and the fund house. Moreover, the information in the application form should match with the Aadhaar card details.
